IMPORTANT INFO

 

Students, please be aware that this Wed., Nov. 25th will be a minimum day. School will start at 8 a.m. and end at 12 noon. This Thursday & Friday there will be NO school because of the Thanksgiving Holiday. – Bailey

 

If you don’t have an ID..get one before class! Come to the Admin office to get a temporary ID before school starts. You MUST have an ID while on campus. If you do not have one, you will be assigned detention. - Gordon

Middle College High School applications for spring are due today, November 23rd. Please get your application to the middle college office at Cañada.

 

The canned food drive is still going! It is not too late to donate canned goods to your 4th period class or bins around campus! Make a difference! – Kelly

 

Don’t forget about the “No Woman Left Behind” event this Tuesday, the 24th from 7 -9 p.m. This is a free event and will be in the Carlmont Performing arts center. Come and be inspired! - Bustamante

 

CLASS INFO

 

Seniors!!!  Do you need a letter of recommendation from your guidance counselor for either a private college or a scholarship?  If so, the deadline to turn in your request for letter of recommendation packet is December 1st.  Once again, December 1st is the deadline for any type of letter of recommendation.  If you need a new packet, please see Mrs. Dominguez in the College Center. – Dominguez

 

Seniors, Class of 2010.  Get your Grad Night Tickets NOW!  They are on sale and forms are available in the office if you did not get one at arena registration.  Tickets are on sale now for $75.00 but the prices will go up soon.  You don't want to miss a fantastic night of fun, memories and final moments.  Get your tickets now.

Parent involvement that begins in the elementary and middle schools continues at Carlmont. Parents have a strong voice here and continue to be an influential part of school. They are strongly encourages to be part of the active campus life.
  • Governance Council: The main governing body at Carlmont is charged with setting the policies and guidelines for the school concerning academics, curriculum, administration, sports and other areas. Comprised of parents, students, teachers, staff and administrators.
  • Site Council: Reporting to the Governance Council, this group of elected parents, along with stucommunitydents and staff, recommends the distribution of fiscal resources in line with goals.
  • Special Education Parent Advisory Committee: Representatives from each of the District's high schools act as advocates for special education students.
  • Carlmont Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA): An organization of parents, staff and students keeping parents informed about school activities and policies, and advising school staff on parents' concerns. Fund-raising is not a primary activity.
  • Parent Support Groups (PSG): The parents of each graduating class (e.g. 2010) have opportunities to meet, and, with the assistance of a school administrator, discuss academic and social issues related to raising teenagers.
  • Carlmont Advocates for Performing Arts (CAPA) and Carlmont Sports Boosters: These groups support specific activities (drama, dance, instrumental and vocal music, and ethletics) through fund-raising and organizational assistance.
  • Carlmont Academic Foundation: An organization of alumni and parents, the Foundation's role is to raise funds to support educational programs at Carlmont.
  • Carlmont Athletic Foundation: An organization of alumni and parents, the Foundation's role is to raise funds to support sports programs at Carlmont.
  • Target Success: A District program with the express intention of bringing information to parents which will increase awareness of student growth, District and school programs. A special out reach is extended to members of the communities beyond Belmont and San Carlos.

Supporting a Better Community

  • Service learning is a part of the curriculum at each grade level. Students take charge of their learning to design projects in science (9th grade), English (10th), U.S. History (11th), and Government (12th) and apply their subject-specific knowledge and skills to aid the community.
  • Individual and family counseling, assessment, and referrals: An on-site therapist provides academic and emotional support to all students as needed.
  • Students Offering Support (SOS): A peer-helping-peer program to support new students, deliver educational information, and mediate disagreements among students.
  • Rotary Club: The Rotary Club in Belmont, a service organization, partners with the Interact Club on campus to support student involvement in community services.
  • San Carlos Chamber of Commerce Educational Council: Carlmont staff meets monthly with the Chamber to discuss school and community issues. The Chamber supports Youth in Business Day (job shadowing).
  • School Resource Officer (SRO): Supported by the City of Belmont and shared with Notre Dame High School, the SRO familiarizes students with the positive services offered by the police department. The SRO is similar to the D.A.R.E. officer in elementary/middle school.

Text Messaging Alert System

The Belmont Safe Schools Text Messaging Alert System, allows students, parents, relatives & school staff to receive important messages from their school or from Belmont PD, over their mobile devices (cell phone, smart phone, PDA, etc...). The system can be used to advise of school closures, traffic issues, and incidents on or near campus, etc... Because it is a text message, which goes to a mobile device, subscribers can receive the message if they are in class, the library, their dorm/apt or off campus. Subscribers sign up at their school's website and are in the system until they remove themselves, so for example, an incoming student and their family only have to sign up once during their years as a student at that school. Subscribers can remove themselves at any time. This system received initial funding from the City of Belmont as part of its Disaster Preparedness efforts and is maintained through the Belmont Safe Schools Program.
