STATE CIF ANNOUNCES 2005-06 ACADEMIC TEAM CHAMPIONS

Four schools each took top honors in three sports each, including Carlmont (Central Coast Section).  CONGRATULATIONS Carlmont Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Tennis, and Boys Varsity Water Polo teams.  We are proud of you.  Go Scots! STATE CIF ANNOUNCES 2005-06 ACADEMIC TEAM CHAMPIONS

The State CIF has named its state academic team champions for the 2005-06 school year, CIF Executive Director Marie M. Ishida announced today. Four schools each took top honors in three sports each, including Carlmont (Central Coast Section), Francis Parker (San Diego Section), Laguna Blanca (Southern Section) and Los Altos (Central Coast Section). Santa Cruz(Central Coast Section) won in two sports. Laguna Blanca posted the highest GPA in baseball, football and boys soccer for the second straight year. Francis Parker and Santa Cruz repeated as champion in boys golf and girls water polo, respectively.

Overall, Central Coast Section schools earned 11 titles, while the Southern Section claimed 10. This marks the second year that all CIF-approved sports were eligible for consideration. CIF Academic State Championships are offered for 27 teams in 17 sports. Previously, only teams in state championship sports were eligible for team academic honors.

"We continue to be impressed with the academic success of students throughout the state. The academic state championship program recognizes those teams that truly have embodied the CIF’s belief in educational athletics," said Ishida.

Text Messaging Alert System

The Belmont Safe Schools Text Messaging Alert System, allows students, parents, relatives & school staff to receive important messages from their school or from Belmont PD, over their mobile devices (cell phone, smart phone, PDA, etc...). The system can be used to advise of school closures, traffic issues, and incidents on or near campus, etc... Because it is a text message, which goes to a mobile device, subscribers can receive the message if they are in class, the library, their dorm/apt or off campus. Subscribers sign up at their school's website and are in the system until they remove themselves, so for example, an incoming student and their family only have to sign up once during their years as a student at that school. Subscribers can remove themselves at any time. This system received initial funding from the City of Belmont as part of its Disaster Preparedness efforts and is maintained through the Belmont Safe Schools Program.
